New blog series: Tip Thursdays! I will be posting tips on photo shoots, what to wear, what to bring, what to expect, etc. Welcome to the first installment, Tips for the Fellas!

Ladies, I’ve come up with a few tips for the fellas in your life that aren’t as enthusiastic as you are about taking photos. Show this to your man-friends before they engage in a photo shoot and it will (hopefully) be much easier.

1. I do not bite, hit, throw objects, or spit. (Because, well, ladies don’t spit.) So, the session will be virtually painless. However, as a creative, artistic, and energetic photographer, I will probably suggest poses that might cause slight discomfort. Just remember this: if it feels stupid, it looks great! (I learned that phrase in dance class years ago. It really comes in handy now.)

2. The more you cooperate the quicker the session will end. Guys, admit it: chances are this was NOT your idea. You would much rather be at home watching the game, or mowing the lawn, or something manly like that. But since your lady-friend really, really wants these photos and has already booked the session, humor her for one or two hours. Then you will be free to go about your manly existence doing manly activities.

3. Suggest individual photos of you and your lady-friend. This will give her a chance to be the superstar you know she is. And when it is your turn, you can have as many or as little individual photos as you want. (I shoot a minimum of 5 individual portraits. I want to make sure you aren’t closing your eyes, or the wind isn’t blowing your hair in your face, or a bird isn’t in the picture, or something else as totally random as that.)

4. After viewing the photos, you will love them. You will. You want to know why? Because you braved the evil camera and survived the traumatic experience. I mean, I “shot” you. It can’t get more traumatic than that, right? And if that isn’t reason enough to love the photos, you have another reason to love them: your lady-friend is in them! And if she can’t make you smile then who can?

Tip for the ladies: If none of these amazing, witty, and sarcastic tips work on your fella, bribe them with ice-cream, cookies, and/or pizza. That should definitely work. ; )

Hope this helps all those in photo-crisis!

Good afternoon!
I updated my portfolio with some new pictures of ShaRee and Kevin. Go take a look! Keep a look out for more of their pictures posted on the Myspace and Facebook pages. Also, my site is having some technical difficulties with the comments. So, if you’ve tried to comment, my apologizes! I’ll try to get that fixed sooner rather than later. My phone is also going through some issues so if you call and I don’t answer, please leave a voicemail! I will get back to you as soon as possible. Or, just e-mail me at [email protected]

Okay, enough of the technical difficulties! I have a beautiful picture to share. Yesterday after I posted ShaRee & Kevin’s session the weather turned ugly. After the storm, a double rainbow appeared outside. So, here’s a photo for you on this gorgeous day!

  • Love this one! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen a rainbow and wanted to photograph it. The fact that it’s a double rainbow makes it even sweeter.

Last Monday my cousin ShaRee came to visit from South Carolina. She brought her boyfriend, Kevin to meet the family. (He lives in North Carolina; about an hour from ShaRee). So, we arranged a photo shoot for her and Kevin. This was my first time meeting him and I was a bit nervous. But, after the initial few photos on the front porch, it was clear that this was going to be a fun and hilarious photo shoot! Not only did Kevin make ShaRee and me laugh the whole time, but he was also a very inspirational model! The afternoon photo shoot began at her parent’s house. Then after a quick outfit change we headed to my house for some more pictures. My aunt and uncle live 2.5 minutes from my house. (No, I didn’t exactly time it but it is really close to my house!) ShaRee and Kevin were such good sports to my sometimes crazy ideas. At her parent’s house we found a random bowling ball and of course we had to use it in a few photos. I posted one of my favorite bowling ball pictures below. Afterward, ShaRee remembered that as a kid I absolutely hated getting ANY dirt on my hands. Seriously, I could not stand it and would literally cry until I was clean. (I’m not that bad now but I still carry GermX… just in case… haha) But she found it ironic that now I will sit and/or lie on the ground and hide in weeds for the perfect shot. I even had grass stains after this session, but it was totally worth it! Okay, enough of my rambling, it is picture time!

A fun shot of ShaRee & Kevin deciding what the clouds look like.

Introducing, Missy! My aunt and uncle’s dog.

Here’s my favorite bowling ball picture. Kevin is clearly thinking of another sport though! Funny!

I believe this is when the grass stains occurred. But I LOVE these next two.

Kevin decided the bowling ball needed a hat… and a name. So, this is Wilson the Bowling Ball, not to be confused with Wilson the Volleyball.

All smiles!

This was Kevin’s idea too! Adorable.

I love the colors in these last few.

Last one!

More pictures from ShaRee & Kevin’s session will be posted soon on my Facebook Fan Page, search Bethany Ann Photography, and on my Myspace page.

ShaRee and Kevin, thanks for hanging out with me! It was so nice to meet you, Kevin. I need to plan a trip down there to see you both again soon!

P.S. Add me as a Facebook friend here.

Happy Sunday!
