Bethany Ann Photography – Nashville, Tennessee Wedding & Portrait Photographer » Southern Weddings & Portraits

At Jessica & Jason’s wedding, in addition to my second photographer, I brought along another photographer. Sometimes, I do this so I can cover more in a shorter amount of time. My third photographer was mainly there to capture reception details, while my second photographer & I worked with the couple for their First Look, family photos, and bridal party photos. However, like the ceremony, we were all able to capture Jessica getting ready.

We had a small space – probably 5’x5′ –  to work in, as we were surrounded by family & friends watching and helping Jessica get ready. Off to the left of the images below, was a couch, filled with clothes, jackets, shoes, purses and other stuff that accumulates on a wedding day. So, we had to work around it as best we could to eliminate any distractions that would take away from Jessica.

I loved how, given the same circumstances, we each found a different angle to photograph the same moment.

My image, below left, is the angle from above Jessica’s sister, who put the garter on for her. My third shooter, below right, captured Jessica’s expression.

At the same time, my second photographer bent down to capture this eye-level angle that I love:
In my second photographer’s photo, you can see some “stuff” in the background, but by turning the image black and white, I was able to minimize distractions that take away from the focal point.

If you are a professional photographer just starting out, or even a hobbyist, always think about the different angles you can capture a moment in, use them to eliminate distracting elements. :)

Have a great day!

Pictures and video of the Castles wedding are great! Two beautiful people united in marriage on January 19th, 2013. So glad we were there with the family and friends!

“They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.” -Andy Warhol

Last Thursday, I attended Justin & Mary’s What’s Next Tour. The idea, as simple as the title, was “What’s Next” in life. What’s the next step that will allow me to grow, change, and/or move mountains?

The weight of that idea, unlike the title, was not simple at all. It was powerful. It allowed me to visualize where I want to be in ten, twenty years. But more importantly, it allowed me to dream again.

As a business owner, I’ve already taken a risk and dreamed this dream of owning my own photography business. But the day-ins and day-outs of owning & running a business, can cause one to stop dreaming.

I didn’t even realize, until Thursday, that I was at that place. That place of living-my-dream-but-not-dreaming. That’s a scary thought when you think of it – living life, without dreams. No matter how small or big the dreams are, like going on a vacation to Hawaii, or creating a non-profit to help others, it’s still important to dream.

We only have this life. This one, intense, crazy life. Why not make it an extraordinary life and dream? But not only that, why not turn those dreams into realities? Why not? Even if you fail, you’ve tried. You can change your world, regardless of the outcome, because you know sitting on the sidelines is not how to spend this one, intense, crazy life.

She’s my office assistant. My meowing alarm clock. The one I talk the most to. That’s kind of weird, until you factor in that she’s here all day, and I am here all day, so it just works. (She doesn’t talk back, by the way. ;) ) She’s my paper shredder. My bag climber-inner. My office chair destroyer. She loves all things soft and fluffy, like towels, pillows, blankets. She jumps in boxes, chases her ball around, and runs full speed from one end of the downstairs to the other.

But, sometimes it’s just nice to sit by a window and sun yourself, right, Lexi?

Happy One-Day-Closer to Friday!
