It’s the second week of January and I’m just now writing out my goals for the year. That’s pretty good, considering I don’t think I had any goals last year. Or if I did, I don’t think  I wrote them down!

In some random way, I feel like goals are instructions, and I don’t like following instructions. See where I’m going with this? If I write down goals, I won’t follow them.

At least, that’s before 2013 came along! Something in me actually wants to achieve my goals… a.k.a. follow the instructions!

A few of my goals for the year include:

  • Blog Regularly – I kind of slacked off through the holidays, but I’m back!
  • Limited to NO Caffeine drinks – When Rick & I started our diet in September, we gave up caffeine. And then, the holidays hit and we picked it up again, (as well as all of those bad yet yummy foods, but we won’t get into that!). It’s an awful habit and after not having any for a day, I had such a terrible headache again. So, I made a goal to have limited to NO caffeine. See, my goal is technically ‘no’ caffeine, but if I slip up once or twice a month, I’m still following the plan. Right? Right. ;) I haven’t had any caffeine since December 30th. Remember this blog about Rick saying I couldn’t give up caffeine? Well, it’s happening, and I’m winning so far!
  • Get dressed in normal clothes for the work day when I work at home. And today, I’m failing at this one. Still in my PJs at 11AM.
  • Get our passports. You like how I threw Rick into that goal? Well, he threw me into his goal of being on a budget. ;)
  • Photograph for me, at least once a month.
  • Make & Stay on a Schedule.
  • Take actual time “Off” from work on the weekends I’m home and during the evenings. I want to get to a point where I don’t feel guilty about not working. It’s difficult working from home, because I always feel like I have to work when I’m home – which is pretty much all the time!
  • Be a patient photographer & click only when I mean it.

And those are just a few of my goals. Yes, I have even more that I didn’t share! Apparently, I feel like 2013 is going to be a year of change. :)

I hope you have a wonderful Monday!
Bethany

Happy New Year! I am so excited, ready and anxious for 2013. So far, I am half-way booked for weddings, which is way more than I ever could have hoped for. I can’t wait to photograph my 2013 weddings and create more memories like the ones brought back by the images below. It’s fun to look behind the scenes and see the whole picture sometimes. That’s the point of this post, if you couldn’t tell from the title. ;) While gathering photos, I discovered that I wore a lot more color than I did last year. And you know what? I loved it! I will definitely continue the tradition in 2013. A special thanks to all of my wonderful assistant photographers who helped me in 2012. I couldn’t have done any of this without you. Plus, now I have all of these fun, and sometimes funny, images of myself taking photos. :)

I love my pink coat:
Blurry mirror self photo of Joan from Joan of Art Photography and I:  “Work it, girl!” That’s what she always says to me. Look who’s workin’ it here:  Pretty sure my shirt matches the wallpaper at the Smith Trahern Mansion I don’t know what my hand is doing:
Pretty sure I’m not supposed to hold the camera like that. Or hunch over like that. Ekk!  I now love photographing in dresses on super hot wedding days: Oh yes, this happened this year, too! On the ground in a dress at Alicia & Mike’s wedding. :) Awesome:  Photobombers:  Where’s the photographer? :)  I have no idea why I think the toe point helps, but I really feel more creative when I do it:  Ahh, the day I wore my polka-dot shirt. Have I mentioned before how much I love polka-dots? :)  I love my pink sweater in this photo. And I love fall weddings like D & J’s, because I can wear a long-sleeved sweater:  These are my “That’s A Wrap!” hands! :)

Have a Happy 2nd Day of 2013!

Bethany

It’s the last day of the year! I cannot believe another year has flown by. At times, it seemed to slowly move along, but here we are, December 31st. I’m sure I’m not the only one who can’t believe it. I remember back when Rick & I were dating, years ago, literally YEARS ago, we joked about 2012. You know, the whole Mayan Calendar/world ending/2012 drama. Even when joking, I literally hated discussing 2012. It wasn’t that I believed anything world-ending would happen, but I just felt such a negative vibe about 2012. I’m not going to lie, there have been lows in 2012, but there have also been many, many highs. I am so glad that the negativeness was all hype, and we conquered another year!

So, on this last day of the year, it’s time to look back on the weddings I had the privilege of photographing. Words cannot express my gratitude to all of my couples, this year, years past, and future brides & grooms. It sounds cliché and I’ve said it many times, but I sincerely love my job. Without people like my couples, who believe in and value photography, I would be out of business. More specifically, without people who believe in my vision and photography, I would really be out of business. I know I’m not the right photographer for everyone, but when my couples and I find each other, it’s as if we were meant to be. :) I wish I could hug all of you right now! Just know that you are very loved and appreciated by your photographer. :) Thank you times a million!
