Do you ever have those weekends where you look back and think, “Did that really happen?” We had one of those this weekend!
This weekend was pretty great, well besides what happened yesterday evening, which I’ll get to in a second. Rick and I stayed in on Friday night, and then Saturday we went to Hobby Lobby, iHop and Pier One. Then, Sunday rolled around. My parents, grandma and nephew came over yesterday afternoon to help us baby proof the cabinets, hang a mirror, and some other odd and end stuff. It was a busy afternoon, but we had fun laughing at each other and looking at the new family photos I printed. Just as they were about to leave it happened. The “it” that made the weekend seem extremely absurd and unbelievable.
As Rick was pushing the garbage herby curby to the curb, in the grass, it tripped him up and he fell face first on it. I didn’t see it happen, because I was over on the other side of the car telling my nephew bye, but when I looked over I saw him, on the ground about to stand up, and a little blood trickling down his nose. It was a blur, but once we all looked at him, it was obvious he had to go to the ER, since blood began gushing out of his nose. We managed to jump in his car within five minutes of it happening and headed to the ER, leaving my parents, grandma and nephew at our house with Graham.
It didn’t take us long to get back to a room, which we were thankful for! He had a sense of humor still, which made it a little more bearable for him, I’m sure. He even told one doctor who asked what happened, “Have you ever met Oscar?” As in Oscar the Grouch who lives in a trash can on Sesame Street. Ha! He also said “It’s not like I hit my face on a trash can or anything.” When the doctor asked if he wanted a tetanus shot. “The only thing that would be worse is if I ran into a porta potty,” was another one of his great lines. I am so thankful to the awesome nurse and doctor who took care of him. And, we are pretty positive the doctor who saw us, also sewed up my finger from a few years ago. She is super nice and friendly. He had to have a few stitches, on his nose and in his gum. He broke his nose, too, and has a few cuts on his face. He said the worst part is his gum / lips, if you can believe a broken nose isn’t the worst part.
We are so glad he didn’t break any teeth; we went to the dentist this morning for a follow-up and it looks like he did chip a couple of teeth, but that’s easily fixed after his gum heals up. We are also glad his new glasses didn’t break into his eyes, too. The nosepiece came off, but the technicians at the eye doctor took care of that this morning. I still can’t believe it happened, but yep. It did. Rick will have an awesome scar, I’m sure. And I’m sure he’ll have fun telling people about that time he got in a fight with a trash can, you know, after he heals up nicely. ;) Also, my amazing family put together our new patio set while we were at the ER! They didn’t want Rick to have to mess with it while he healed up. I seriously nearly cried when my sister sent me the text message. Love them. :) Anyway! That was my “did that really happen?” weekend story. I hope your weekend was awesome and didn’t involve stitches or trash cans!
And, just because, here’s a photo my sister took of Rick, Graham and me last Sunday. I love these handsome guys!
